I have always enjoyed working with wood. The first rocking horse I made was for my granddaughter’s second birthday. She loved the horse and a new venture was born!
Initially, my business was creating bespoke furniture, but in addition to this I have now expanded into the wonderful, traditional craft of rocking horse making. I am a member of the Rocking Horse Guild and take great pleasure from both the production of the horses and the delight they give to their owners.
Each horse is hand crafted and individual to the customer. Some people prefer painted horses which are prepared in the traditional way using gesso, paint and varnish. Other customers opt for a natural wooden finish. Whichever is chosen I always use real horse hair for the mane and tail to add to the authenticity. This comes in a variety of colours again allowing people to personalise their horse. The tack is made from leather and the stirrup irons are solid brass producing a high quality finished product which complies with EU toy safety regulations.
